Shocking, disturbing, barbaric are the terms being used to describe the recent undercover videos documenting high-level directors in Planned Parenthood discussing how they “harvest” and sell aborted fetal body parts to labs for research. What do you think? What does God think?
The conversations and images on these videos have ignited a debate around the nation about Planned Parenthood breaking the law. Are they making a profit on fetal body parts or changing abortion procedures to remove “in tack” specimens to fill orders? If so, should they be prosecuted? Should the federal government stop funding Planned Parenthood? But more importantly, what does God think about this latest scandal? What does God think about selling fetal body parts?
It’s Not About Money, It’s About Murder
Psalm 139:13-15a – For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret.
Scripture is very clear that God is the creator of life. We are all here because God is our creator and He developed a process for this to happen. (see my blog “Great Sex”) The procreation process means that when a woman gets pregnant, she is now carrying a human life created by God. We would all agree that any human life has the right to live until it naturally stops living.
In fact, we would even allow people to donate their body parts to research or helping others when they die. But if someone takes it upon themselves to end a human life, we call that murder and so does God.
From God’s perspective, the Planned Parenthood issue isn’t about selling aborted fetal body parts, it’s about ending the life (i.e., murdering) of a baby. Over the last 40 years, 55+ million babies have been killed through abortion. Those are 55 million men, women, teachers, doctors, musicians, artists, etc., who have never had the chance to live the life you and I are living because they were killed before they could speak. This is the tragedy that is currently taking place, not selling body parts!
It’s Not About Choice, It’s About Responsibility
Deut. 6:5-7 – You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
The abortion debate is often framed within a “pro-choice” context. In other words, a woman should have the right to make “choices” about her body and not be forced to give birth to a child if she doesn’t want to. On the surface, this sounds reasonable, but the problem is timing. A woman’s choice to have a baby actually takes place when she has sex. This is the time when there is no baby or life to end. This is the time she has a choice. Once fertilization takes place and a life is created, the choice is over and God’s procreation process kicks in and the baby grows and develops without any assistance. It is choice free!
So when we talk about “pro-choice”, we are really saying a woman can make choices when she is not supposed to (i.e., during pregnancy) and doesn’t have to make choices when she is supposed to (i.e., during sex). Let’s be clear, abortion isn’t about making choices, it’s about taking responsibility for your choices. In fact, God doesn’t give parents any choice in the matter other than to take responsibility for raising their children to love God and those around them (see my blog “High School Survival Parenting Tips”).
Yes, these videos and images are shocking, disturbing and barbaric but it’s the natural progression when you devalue human life to that of a car, buying and selling parts. I’m grateful these videos are finally exposing the horrors of abortion that have been going on behind closed doors for 40 years. I pray these videos will save the lives of future unborn babies!
God is the creator of life and as Christians, we need to love and protect those He creates!
